Lakewood Wildfire Evacuation Drill Community Meeting, Oct. 9th 6:30 pm
We are seeking residents of the Lakewood Neighborhood (those who depend on Lakewood Rd. or Marshall Dr.) to participate in an Evacuation Exercise on Sunday, October 20th from 7-8 am. Come learn what’s happening and how to get involved at our Community Meeting on October 9th at the Indian Valley Elem. School at 6:30 pm. We will also discuss personal preparedness and how you can be more prepared for wildfires.
Lakewood Wildfire Evacuation Drill on Oct. 20th 7:00 am - 8:00 am
More about the Oct. 20th Drill: Expect traffic delays both directions on Homestead Ave on Sunday, October 20th from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. The full-scale evacuation exercise will limit Marshall Dr. and Lakewood Rds to one-way traffic headed away from the Shell Ridge Open Space. The Walnut Creek Police Department, Contra Costa Fire and Sheriff's Office, CALFIRE, and Walnut Creek CERT are coordinating the drill. The exercise is designed to test our ability to manage a large-scale evacuation. It will involve notifying participating residents using the Contra Costa County Community Warning System and Nixle. We will be sending participating residents down Marshall Dr. and Lakewood Rd. to Homestead Ave. Vehicular traffic from 7-8 am will be impacted onMarshall Dr. or Lakewood Rd. We realize that this may inconvenience some residents and hope you will understand what an incredible learning experience this will be for our first-responders and the community. With the recent fires in our state, we have seen how important a well-practiced evacuation can be.
