Discounts for solar, zero emission cars

Post Date:09/29/2017

Residents can receive discounts on solar and zero emissions vehicles  through SunShares Program

Sunshares, a renewable energy group purchase program that makes it easier and more affordable to go solar or purchase a zero emission vehicle, will hold a free workshop on Sept. 28 for residents interested in learning more.

The workshop is from 7-8 p.m. at Concord’s City Council Chambers, 1950 Parkside Drive, Concord and residents can RSVP at

Under the SunShares program, any resident of the nine Bay Area counties (as well as residents of Sacramento and Yolo counties) can access discounts on electric vehicles (EVs), including the plug-in electric Nissan Leaf and the hydrogen fuel cell powered Toyota Mirai. In addition, participants can install rooftop solar at prices well below market rates from PetersenDean, SkyTech Solar or Solar Technologies. Electric vehicle charger discounts may be offered at a later date. For renters and others who can’t access home solar, SunShares provides information on new utility and city programs that allow Bay Area residents to receive power from offsite wind and solar farms.

In addition to the in-person workshops, SunShares is offering free online webinars in September and October to help homeowners, drivers, and renters understand their clean energy options and how they can benefit from SunShares.

The SunShares program helps solar and EV companies reduce high costs associated with marketing and customer acquisition, which in turn allows the firms to offer discounted pricing.

SunShares participants have until November 10 to sign up for limited-time discounts, and must sign a contract with one of the selected providers by December 31 to qualify for the group discount available through Bay Area SunShares. Installations will be completed the following spring.
