COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT) The goal of CERT is to teach people the skills they need to pull together and safely help their community in the event of disaster, as the demand for emergency services will likely exceed available resources. CERTs go through a basic 20-hour training, and are sworn in as volunteer Disaster Service Workers for the City of Walnut Creek. When disaster strikes, CERT volunteers check on their family's safety first, and then gather at their pre-designated CERT Staging Area to work with other CERTs in helping the surrounding neighborhoods and gathering information for the City's Emergency Operations Center.
HOW CERT WORKS IN WALNUT CREEK Walnut Creek has 8 CERT Areas. CERT graduates are assigned to a CERT Area based on where they live. In the event of emergency, CERTs gather at their CERT Staging Area and work together as trained in the CERT Program. Want to know which CERT Area you live in? Click for street index or go to the "Walnut Creek CERT Areas" page for maps.
