  Completing the Building Contractor Business License Tax Application

Dear Business Tax Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in applying for a City of Walnut Creek Building Contractor Business License. By applying for this License you will be in compliance with the City code section that requires a license fee be imposed upon each and every person or entity doing business in the City. This requirement has existed within the City since 1962.

Filling in the Form

Business Name Enter the name of your business or "dba", as you want it to appear on your certificate. (40-character maximum)
Addresses The Business Address is the physical location at which your business is located and cannot be a PO Box or Mail Boxes Etc location. The mailing address is the location where all correspondence from the City, including renewal notices and certificates will be sent. If you change your address, please notify the Business License office immediately so you can continue to receive the necessary correspondence in a timely manner.
Corporation Name If you are incorporated please fill in the full legal corporate name.
Type of Ownership Your business will fit into one of the six options listed.
State License No. Six digit number issued by the California State Contractor’s License Board.
License Type State Contractor license classification (e.g., A, B, C10). List all classifications held with the State.
Federal ID number Issued by the IRS and required to pay certain business taxes.
Information About all Principles Required to be completed in full for all types of ownership. For a corporation or LLC, this would be the name of the officers of the entity. (You can omit the social security number if a Federal ID # is given.) Attach additional sheets if necessary.

Calculating the Tax Due

Building Contractors with a fixed place of business outside the City of Walnut Creek may choose a quarterly or annual Business License, depending on the duration of the project.
Building Contractors with a fixed place of business inside the City of Walnut Creek must maintain a continuous, annual Business License.
Business License rates differ for General Engineering "A" Contractors, General Building "B" Contractors, and Specialty "C"-type contractors.

Penalties

Please be aware that you may be assessed a monthly 10% penalty for late payment of your license. Penalties are assessed at 30-day intervals, up to 50% of the annual business tax due (Walnut Creek Municipal Code §8-6.24).
