Ygnacio Canal Trail Crossing Improvements at Walnut Avenue

Dates: August 6, 2018 - Fall 2018

Description: The City will be making pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements to the Ygnacio Canal Trail crossing at Walnut Avenue.  The project will realign the trail crossing, deliberately creating a short jog to slow cyclists before they enter the crossing.  A bulb-out on the southern side of Walnut Avenue will reduce the crossing length, and improve the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists.  The project will also install new pedestrian push-button-activated warning lights on both sides of the crosswalk.

Impacts: The Ygnacio Canal Trail crossing at Walnut Avenue will be closed for the duration of the project.   Closure notices are posted on the trail.  Over the course of this work, you may experience traffic delays.  Parking will be prohibited at locations adjacent to the work.  Work locations will be posted with NO PARKING signs a minimum of 72 hours prior to the start of the work.

Crosswalk Improvements at N California Boulevard/Cole Avenue and San Luis Road/Conejo Way

Dates: August 14, 2018 – October 2018

Description: Construction will begin for the installation of push button activated flashing beacon systems at the following pedestrian crossings:

  • N California Boulevard at Cole Avenue
  • San Luis Road at Conejo Way (Briones-Mt Diablo Trail Crossing)

In addition to the flashing beacons, the northern crosswalk at the intersection of N California Blvd at Cole Ave will be removed as part of the pedestrian improvements. New roadway “PED XING” legends will be installed on north and southbound approaches to the N California Blvd at Cole Ave pedestrian crossing.

The Briones Mt Diablo Trail will remain open during construction.

Impacts: There will be lane closures on California Boulevard and on San Luis Road/Conejo Way. The Contractor will post pedestrian detours during periodic sidewalk closures.
