Walnut Creek Recreation's Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to residents and non-residents interested in participating in high quality recreation programs. Scholarship recipients receive a 50% scholarship, up to a maximum of $500 for a family and $250 for a single person household, for qualifying Recreation programs (not including processing or supply fees). Scholarships are now available to everyone (adults, seniors, youth and specialized recreation participants) —residents and non-residents. See below for information on eligibility and how to apply.

Proof of Income (REQUIRED):

  • Attach proof of income/financial need (see Income Eligibility chart above)
  • Previous year's tax return (form 1040/1040EZ/1040NR)* OR
  • Proof of income assistance from issuing agency (County, State, School District, etc.) OR
  • Proof that the child is a foster or institutionalized child.

* Your household size must equal the number claimed on your income tax form.

A Recreation Division representative will notify you within 3 weeks whether your application is approved or denied based on the application and requirement criteria.

If approved, a 50% scholarship award, up to a maximum of $500 for a family and $250 for a single person household, will be applied toward registration fees in eligible Walnut Creek Recreation programs. Supply fees and the $3.00 administrative processing fee per class are not included in the scholarship award.

Scholarship recipients must pay the remaining registration fee (co-payment) for enrollment. Co-payments may be made by check, cash, VISA or MasterCard. Supply fees are paid to the instructor.

Scholarships are awarded on a first-come/first-served basis and are dependent on the availability of program funds/resources. Scholarship recipients must re-apply every Fall quarter (usually in August) in order to be considered for future scholarships. Please check every year for new scholarship policy updates.
