The Administrative Services Department is comprised of the Finance and Information Technology divisions, providing essential administrative services including finance, accounting, business license services, budgeting, and information technology solutions.
Arts and Recreation
The Arts and Recreation Department oversees Aquatics, the Bedford Gallery and public art projects, the Boundary Oak Golf Course, Center for Community Arts, the Lesher Center for the Arts, Recreation Services, and Social Services for seniors and physically and developmentally disabled youth and adults. Together our programs contribute to making Walnut Creek a regional destination, promote arts appreciation, community engagement and volunteerism, fitness and wellness, and personal enrichment, and contribute to the City's overall economic vitality.
The City Attorney advises and represents the City Council and City staff on all legal matters. He prepares ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, bond indentures and other legal documents.
The City Manager's office carries out City Council policies and directs the activities of the various City departments and services. The City Manager may recommend programs and clarify procedures for the Council but is bound by the decisions of the Council in his or her own actions. The office is responsible for Communications & Outreach, Economic Development, Emergency Preparedness, and Parking Management. The City Clerk's Office is also under the umbrella of the City Manager's office.
Community & Economic Development
The Community & Economic Development Department is responsible for issuing Building Permits and building related Inspection Services; City Planning/Zoning and special land use studies; Economic Development to maintain its vibrant economic position in the region; and, handling Nuisance Code violations and abatement proceedings. It also oversees revisions and updates to the Walnut Creek General Plan
Community Development Department also provides staffing services to the Planning Commission and Design Review Commission.
The City of Walnut Creek's Human Resources Department is committed to support the organization in meeting the service needs of the community through the City's most valuable resources *OUR PEOPLE*.
The Police Department is responsible for maintaining law and order in the City. The Patrol Bureau provides general police services and responds to citizens' requests for assistance. It also uses volunteers such as Reserve Officers and Explorers to supplement the activities of the regular officers. The department also handles traffic and parking enforcement, crossing guard services, emergency calls (911), citations and crime investigations. It conducts a crime prevention/Neighborhood Watch program and provides group tours of the Police Department upon request.
The Public Works Department is responsible for the Parks & Picnic Rentals and Open Space division, Engineering Services and Traffic Engineering. Engineering Services includes planning, design and inspection of public construction projects and oversight of the Capital Improvement Program.
