Aquatics hires year round. Now accepting applications for Spring/Summer 2016

and Fall/Winter 2016/17!

We are looking for Lifeguards and/or Swim Instructors (15 yrs+) and support staff. We accept American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificates or Ellis & Associates International Lifeguarding Certificates. Desirable candidates must possess a current lifeguarding certificate and enjoy the water, outdoors, and children.

Aquatics Positions
Lifeguard/Assistant Swim Instructor
15 years and older
$10.50-$11.50/hr

Responsibilities:
  • Provide for safety of swim center participants through vigilance, emergency response and rule enforcement, etc.
  • Participate in regular trainings and activities
  • Teach swim lessons
  • Other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Current Lifeguard and CPR/AED certificates
  • Proficient swimming skills
  • Ability to engage in physical activity
  • Ability to work at both City Swim Centers

  Senior Swim Instructor/Lifeguard
  16 years and older
  $12.00-$13.00/hr

  Responsibilities:
  • Provide for safety of swim center participants through vigilance, emergency response and rule enforcement, etc.
  • Plan and organize swim lessons while guiding assistant instructors
  • Enthusiastically represent the Swim Lesson Program
  • Take initiative in daily tasks and set an example during training and activities
  • Other related duties as assigned 

  Requirements:
  • Two seasons paid work experience as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor
  • Knowledge of Swim Instruction
  • Current Lifeguard and CPR/AED certificates
  • Ability to work at both City Swim Centers

Summer Camps
Summer 2016 Employment Information

The Recreation Division is seeking energetic individuals who want to have fun this summer. As a Recreation Division employee, you will gain knowledge and develop skills in leadership, public relations, conflict resolution, safety awareness and teamwork, while building lifelong friendships. Job experience is not always necessary, but applicants must display a good work ethic, sense of teamwork, and a willingness to help strengthen our community and foster human development through the exciting field of recreation.
We offer five different Day Camp programs for children. Leaders direct games, arts & crafts, songs, and trips. 

All Positions for the 2016 Summer Camp  Employment is have been fulfilled. Please inquire again for the 2017 Summer in January 2017.

Recreation Leader

15 years and older
$10.25- $12.25 hr.

Responsibilities:

• Assist Sr. Leaders in organizing and leading activities
• Active participation in all activities, trips and swim days
• Provide for safety of children
• Initiate interaction with children
• Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

• One year of volunteer or paid experience with children
• One year of completed high school education
• Ability to engage in physical activity
• CPR & First Aid Certification desirable
• Ability to work at a number of different sites throughout the city

Senior Recreation Leader

18 years and older or High School Graduate.
$13.25 - $15.25 hr

Responsibilities:

• Plan and organize activities for assigned site
• Supervise children and provide for their safety
• Enthusiastically lead activities and set example for Recreation Leaders
• Maintain attendance records and provide written reports upon request
• Interact with parents and staff to create a cohesive working team

Requirements:

• Two years paid work experience in a day or resident camp setting
• Ability to engage in physical activity
• CPR & First Aid certification desirable
• Ability to work at a number of different sites throughout the city.

Specialized Recreation Summer Camp Leaders

15 years or older

Gym Attendant

Hourly Rate: $12-14 per hour to start

Hours: Must be available weekdays, weekday evenings and weekends. This is a 10-20 hour a week position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Part-time gym attendant for the City of Walnut Creek Recreation Division. Under general direction and supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Gym Attendant will be the onsite staff contact for the City's gymnasiums (Walnut Creek Intermediate, Foothill, Tice Valley). Building Attendant

Hourly Rate: $11 per hour to start

Hours: Hours are primarily weekday evenings and weekend days and evenings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Part-time building attendant for the City of Walnut Creek Recreation Division. The duties of this position include the following: supervision of community centers for rental groups, set up and take down of chairs, tables, and equipment, and custodial services. Hours are primarily weekday evenings and weekend days and evenings.

Desired Qualifications:

Ability to work well with people and have the skills to provide lifting and light custodial services.

Coaches For After School Sports

Hours: Practices/games run Monday-Thursday after school from 3-pm

Hourly Rate: Coaches are paid a stipend for the competitive league and on an hourly basis for the intramural program.

Final Filing Date: Positions open until filled.

Duties & Responsibilities: The City Of Walnut Creek is looking for coaches for its after-school intramural and competitive sports programs at Foothill Middle and Walnut Creek Intermediate School. Coaches are needed for girls’ volleyball September-October, girls' and boys’ basketball from November through March, and for boys’ volleyball and co-ed golf coaches from March through May. Each sport runs approximately 6-8 weeks. For more information, contact Hope Keung, Program Coordinator with the City of Walnut Creek, at 943-5899 ext 5866.

Desired Qualifications: Minimum age requirement is 18-years old. Some experience working with children 12-14 years old preferred. All coaches must be fingerprinted.

Application Guidelines

All applicants must turn in a City Application and a Recreation Division Supplement to be considered for employment.
  1. Read both applications completely before you fill them out.
  2. Type your applications. It is neater and easier to read. If you have to print, use blue or black ink only. Incomplete or illegible applications will not be accepted.
  3. Fill out both applications completely, and sign them.
  4. In the "Employment Record" portion of the City application is where you want to list all your paid or volunteer experience, as it applies to the job. Examples include: babysitting jobs, youth coaching experience, leadership camps, youth mentoring programs, etc. If you have any questions about what is appropriate, feel free to contact us.   5. Remember, you are applying for the job. Having your parents call or fill out your applications is not recommended. We are happy to answer any of your questions or help you in any way that we can.

Interview Tips
  1. Be on time. It is recommended that you be 10-15 minutes early.
  2. Dress appropriately. Jeans and/or T-shirts are not recommended.
  3. Be prepared to give complete answers. We want to know why you feel you deserve the job.
