2012 Summer Job Opportunities

The City of Walnut Creek Recreation Division takes great pride in the programs we offer to the community.
As a Recreation Division employee, you will gain knowledge and develop skills in leadership, public relations, conflict resolution, safety awareness and teamwork, while building lifelong friendships. Job experience is not always necessary, but applicants must display a good work ethic, sense of teamwork, and a willingness to help strengthen our community and foster human development through the exciting field of recreation.

Training Week for all Staff June 11-15

Camp Tenderfoot
Ages 3-5
June 18 – August 10
Held at Heather Farm Community Center.
Monday – Thursday
9:30 am – 12:00 am.

 

Camp Little Walnut
Ages 4-6
June 18 – August 10
Held at Heather Farm Preschool School. Monday – Friday
9:00 am - 11:30 pm

Walnut Creek Day Camp
Ages 6-12
June 18 – August 10
Held at Bancroft Elementary

Monday – Friday
7:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Shifts are 4-9 hours daily and schedules are made weekly

 

A.A.A. Camp
Ages 5-13
June 18-July 20
Held at Walnut Creek  Intermediate
This camp provides afternoon care for the City’s Civic Art’s Education summer school.
Monday – Friday
12 noon – 6:00 p.m.


Sports Mini-Camp
Ages 9-13
June 20 – August 19
Held at Foothill Middle School.
Monday – Friday
7:00 am – 6:00 pm
Shifts are 4-9 hours daily and schedules are made bi-weekly

We are currently hiring energetic, responsible and creative people for a number of different summer programs. Below are suggestions and guidelines to help you prepare for the City's application and interview process.

Application Guidelines

All applicants must turn in a City Application and a Recreation Division Supplement to be considered for employment. Click the links above to download (pdf).

1. Read both applications completely before you fill them out.

2. Type your applications. It is neater and easier to read. If you have to print, use blue or black ink only. Incomplete or illegible applications will not be accepted.

3. Fill out both applications completely, and sign them.

In the "Employment Record" portion of the City application is where you want to list all your paid or volunteer experience, as it applies to the job. Examples include: babysitting jobs, youth coaching experience, leadership camps, youth mentoring programs, etc. If you have any questions about what is appropriate, feel free to contact us.

4. Remember, you are applying for the job. Having your parents call or fill out your applications is not recommended. We are happy to answer any of your questions or help you in any way that we can.

All applications must be mailed in or dropped off. Faxed applications are not be accepted. Upon receipt, your applications will be reviewed and you will be contacted by phone or email if you are selected for an interview.

Interview Guidelines

1. Be on time. It is recommended that you be 10-15 minutes early.

2. Dress appropriately. Jeans and/or T-shirts are not recommended.

3. Be prepared to give complete answers. We want to know why you feel you deserve the job.

4. Now is the time to bring in certification cards, or to mention anything that was not covered in your application.
