Subject: Neighborhood Survey Results and Community Concerns
Dear Participant:
In order to gather as much community input as possible before venturing into the problem solving portion of our traffic calming efforts in your neighborhood, we conducted a neighborhood survey and held an open community feedback session. The neighborhood survey was designed by Fehr & Peers Associates, Inc., a private traffic engineering consulting firm, who specializes in neighborhood traffic calming projects. The intent of the survey is to measure the residential quality of life in relation to traffic. It also offers residents who are unable to attend community meetings with an opportunity to provide valuable input. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with a general overview of the information gathered to date.
We mailed surveys to over 600 households and received 107 completed forms with many comments and suggestions. The survey results indicate that, in general, residents of Arkell Road, Carriage Drive, Claiborne Drive, Dorsch Road, Gill Port Lane, Parish Drive, Savannah Circle and Shannon Lane are more severely impacted by school and commute traffic and are more willing to pursue traffic calming measures such as undulations, turn restrictions, closing streets to through traffic and installing more stop signs than residents of other streets. Most of these residents believe that better speed enforcement would improve their street. Residents that live on other streets in the neighborhood are not as impacted on their respective streets but are still frustrated by the congestion at Carriage and Treat, Winton and Treat, and with the inability to turn left from Arkell onto Treat.
Information gathered at the neighborhood meeting on August 29, 2001, involving 65 participants, echoes these sentiments. The attached pages contain the detailed information collected at this meeting as well as a compilation of the overall survey responses. Please review the attached information in preparation for the next meeting on November 28, 2001. Feel free to contact me at 256-3529 if you have any questions regarding this information.
Sincerely, Kathleen S. Wilkie
Assistant Engineer
