The City of Walnut Creek limits the routes and hours of travel for vehicles that are "oversized" by issuing  Oversize Transportation Permits.  Generally, vehicles must follow established City truck routes, and travel is allowed between 9am and 3:30pm Monday through Friday.  Exceptions may be made depending on individual circumstances.

The oversize Permit costs $16, and are required for loads that are: wider than 8'6", higher than 14', longer than 65' or a single vehicle of 40', heavier than 80,000 lbs.  There are dimensional limits that trigger the need for a pilot car, a height pole, and, on occasion, a CHP escort.
