 The Traffic Engineering Section plays a key role in maintaining safe and efficient travel for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles within the City and provides traffic operations and traffic planning services. We operate 97 traffic signals using the latest technologies to ensure the most efficient and well balanced traffic flow on the busiest arterials in the County.
We manage the on-street parking and loading for a vibrant Walnut Creek Downtown which includes the evaluation and permitting of time limits, hours of operation and special zones such as valet parking. We also manage the parking arrangements to protect the quality of life in residential neighborhoods. We design and review existing and new facilities for safety for all modes of transportation.
We actively seek Grants to enable the City to make significant improvements to our roadways, signal timing and traffic safety. The administration of the various activities is included in the following programs:
