  Arts, Recreation & Community Services

The Arts, Recreation & Community Services Department oversees Civic Arts Education, the Lesher Center for the Arts, the Bedford Gallery, Recreation Services, and the Boundary Oak Golf Course. The Department also arranges for the exhibition of public art. The director is Barry Gordon.

Bedford Gallery

The Exhibition Division operates the Bedford Gallery in the Lesher Center for the Arts, prepares and exhibits public art and operates a volunteer docent program.

Civic Arts Education

Civic Arts Education provides classes in art, dance, music and the performing arts. Courses are offered at two locations, the Shadelands Art Center at 111 N. Wiget and downtown at Civic Park at 1313 Civic Drive.

Lesher Center for the Arts

The Performing Arts Division operates the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Dr., which houses the 800-seat Hofmann Theatre and the 300-seat Margaret Lesher Theatre. Opened in October 1990, the Center is home to the City's own Center Repertory Co., Diablo Light Opera Co. and Contra Costa Musical Theatre.

Recreation Services

Recreation Services provides a variety of recreational programs and classes for pre-school ages to active adults.
