| The Transportation Commission focuses on issues regarding the efficient movement of people and goods throughout the City and its connections to the surrounding region. Topics include the Transporation Element of the General Plan, roadway operation, parking, alternatives to single-occupant vehicle travel, the Downtown Trolley, and other transportation related matters. | Downtown Parking and Transportation Study - FINAL - July 2006 Downtown Parking Task Force Webpage Meetings The Commission meets at 6:00 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday of each odd numbered month at the City Council Chamber of City Hall, 1666 N. Commission Duties The Transportation Commission is composed of five members appointed by the City Council. The Commission's scope of responsibility is to: - Encourage the use of mass transportation and other modes of travel as an alternative to the single-occupant automobile;
- Provide an administrative, planning and policy development framework within the City's organizational structure to focus on all areas affecting transportation;
- Serve as an advisory body to the Planning Commission and City Council on matters relating to transportation planning, policy development and implementation in the City;
- Review and consider modifications or revisions to the transportation element of the General Plan;
- Review and make recommendations on the local mass transportation systems operating in the City including levels of service, routes, fares, etc.;
- Serve as an advisory committee to the City Council in the development and review of a City parking plan;
- Review and assess the impact on the City of regulations of Federal and State agencies pertaining to transportation, and make recommendations on the application of such regulations in the City;
- Review and make recommendations on the development and modification of traffic safety warrants covering all forms of City traffic control devices;
- Make recommendations on the allocation of City capital improvement funds for the City's comprehensive transportation plan and all other transportation related capital improvements; and,
- Work with other governmental agencies involved in the regulation or operation of local transportation service to review the effect of such regulations on service in Walnut Creek.
