The Arts Commission is established by the City Council to assist the Council in providing high-quality, comprehensive arts programs for the public and to enrich the lives of the present and future generations.Term Arts Commissioners hold appointments for a 3-year term.
Meetings The Commission meets at 4:30 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of every other month in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 1666 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek. Commission Duties
The Arts Commission is composed of six members appointed for three- year terms on a staggered basis. The Commission's scope of responsibility is to: - Oversee the preparation of and recommend to the City Council for adoption a Ten-Year Arts Plan to be updated periodically as determined by the Arts Commission;
- Receive and review a biennial program assessment for each City arts program (Lesher Center for the Arts, Bedford Gallery, Center REPertory, and Civic Arts Education) to coincide with City Council's budget process;
- Receive and review annual program reports, developed and presented by City staff, for City's major arts programs and be informed of any substantive program changes;
- Review, provide comment, and recommend priorities to City Council for the proposed biennial operating and capital budget for the City's arts programs;
- Review and provide comment to City Council on Arts Division program user fees and charges, as part of the biennial budget process;
- Review and recommend reasonable standards and policies for program services, facilities usage and other related matters;
- Approve all public art projects as recommended by the Bedford Gallery Advisory Council or the Public Art Selection Committee.
