Summer Theatre Presents Aladdin

What can a beautiful princess and a bread thief have in common? The desire to run away and decide their own fate! Or at least that’s the case in Disney’s adventurous musical Aladdin Jr. The talented participants of Youth Theatre Company (YTC) will enter the magical world of Agrabah as they present the popular musical at the culmination of Summer Theatre on July 5 and July 6 at 4:30 and 7:00 pm.

“Summer Theatre is a special time for the YTC staff,” says producer Rachel Pergamit.  “We all enjoy working together, but during the school year, we often work separately, either on different projects or going in a million different directions and only come together for the performances. Summer Theatre allows us to collaborate all together on one project during a three week, wildly crazy fun program.”

Summer Theatre begins on June 18 and concludes with the final performance of Aladdin Jr on July 7. The cast includes performers from all of the YTC age groups from age 5 – 14 with members 14-18 years of age serving as interns.

“Rachel and I each direct one main cast, and Noelle Arms will be in charge of our Mini Kids cast members,” says director Nina Meehan.  “It is a joy to be able to work with all of us together in one place at one time where we can exchange ideas and concepts on a daily basis. Summer is a blast because the kids have so much fun, and we work hard to find the balance between work and play.”

Noelle couldn’t agree more. “This summer is going to be a great adventure for all of us – a real magic carpet ride just like Aladdin,” she enthuses. “It’s really the perfect story for all of us to relate to with themes of adventure and magic. The show is going to be an amazing experience for all involved, and I know I personally am thrilled to spend five afternoons a week with this inspired team of theatermakers!”

With the help of Rachel, Nina and Noelle, the young performers and teen interns will recreate the citizens and world of Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! In these young, capable hands, the beautiful Princess Jasmine, the adventurous Aladdin, the nefarious grand Vizier, the power-hungry Jafar, and the conniving parrot Iago will all come alive and weave a magic spell on their audience.
