Intro to Etching: Red Brass, Copper, and Nickel
Explore the basic techniques for etching designs onto red brass, copper and nickel. We will experiment with a variety of resists, including acrylic paint and spray paint, tape, rubber cement, permanent markers, permanent ink stamping pads and rubber stamps, and PnP paper, to create textures, patterns and images on metal. Students make a number of pieces that can be incorporated into finished jewelry if desired. Supplies: $40 payable in class. No previous jewelry experience necessary.

Basic Wire Techniques for Jewelry Construction
Beginner Level. In this hands-on class, learn to form three different kinds of wire loops basic to wired jewelry construction, including wrapped loops, rolled loops and loops for teardrop shaped beads. You can use these techniques to connect beads to chain, each other, or to make earrings or pendants. After the basic techniques have been mastered use what you have learned to construct earrings. Basic Bead Stringing
All levels. Get an overview of different stringing materials and techniques, then design and construct a necklace. First part of class includes lecture and demonstrations and includes a handout with the information you need to select the proper materials for various projects including cords, bead tips, leather, various crimps and stringing wire. Next, use what you have learned to design, construct and finish a single strand necklace strung on stringing wire. Request materials list at registration; bring all materials to class. Intro to Seed Beads
Do you enjoy needlework, or are you a jewelry maker looking for new techniques? Use tiny glass beads called seed beads, accent beads, needle and thread to create a beautiful beaded necklace. Designed with the beginner in mind, we will learn two of the most popular beading stitches, Flat Peyote Stitch and Tubular Peyote stitch while completing the class project. This is NOT a bead stringing class. You will receive handouts, sources and great websites for inspiration. Materials: Request list at enrollment, bring all equipment and materials to class. Beaded Jewelry Design
This intermediate to advanced class is an opportunity to work on more complex jewelry designs of your choosing under the guidance of an experienced professional jewelry designer and instructor. Focus on stringing, wire work, knotting, multi-strand and/or seed beads. Combine techniques, work with unusual components, expand your skills. Learn to approach new designs with confidence. Glass Bead Making (Beg)
Learn how to make beautiful glass beads using a HOT HEAD bead torch. Each student will have a torch to work on to maximize hands-on time. Basic of glass beadmaking include: use of tools and equipment, safety, how to make several different shaped beads, and a variety of surface decoration techniques. Please wear all natural fibers and come prepared to have fun. Must have supplies for first class. No previous experience required. Both beginning and repeat students are welcome. Jewelry Design and Construction (Beg-Int)
Emphasis on building basic/intermediate knowledge of jewelry design and construction. Beginning students will design their own jewelry and construct pieces with the fundamental techniques of soldering, sawing, filing, finishing, and basic bezel setting. Lectures, demos, and handouts provide basis of any techniques needed. Int students will progress through more advanced techniques (forging, cold connections, etching, etc). Jewelry will be made from metal sheet and wire. Copper, brass and tools provided. Supply fee: $1 payable in class New students must attend first class for safety discussion and materials list.
