One City, One Book: Walnut Creek Reads is a free program that promotes the joy of reading by offering individuals to read a selected title as part of a community-wide reading experience. Launched in 2006, One City, One Book: Walnut Creek Reads has built programs around Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake: A Novel (2006), Wallace Stegner's All the Little Live Things (2007), and Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid (2008). The next title for 2009 will be announced soon.
One City, One Book: Walnut Creek Reads gives Walnut Creek residents the opportunity to read and enjoy the same book and then participate with their friends and neighbors in a series of community-wide activities and special events in September and October that are designed to enrich the reading experience.
One City, One Book: Walnut Creek Reads is presented by:
- Contra Costa County Library
- Walnut Creek Branch of the American Association of University Women
- Walnut Creek Library Foundation
- Walnut Creek and Ygnacio Valley Friends of the Library groups
- Rossmoor Library
