Where We Are
The Friends of the Skate
Park is the fundraising arm of the Skate Park Task Force,
created by the PROS Commission October 2001. We are charged with
raising funds for the completion of the newly designed and soon to
be built first Skate Park in the City of Walnut Creek. Phase 1
includes 12,250 square feet of skating area, a passenger drop off
zone on Heather Drive with an entry plaza, as well as the street
elements: rails, steps, ledges, as well as the square bowl, raised
peanut, volcano, crater and roller elements. The low bid contractor
from pre-approved bidders was A. J. Vasconi of Concord.
Phase 2 is the 5 to 8 feet deep, amoeba bowl with 2,200 sq feet
of skating area for the advanced skater, as well as the colored,
stamped concrete and boulders. Phase 2 has not been awarded as of
this time.
The Friends of the Skate
Park is flying under the umbrella of the Walnut Creek Fountain for Youth
Foundation, an established group devoted to the youth of our
community which has been in existence for 14 years. The WCFFYF
primary fundraising vehicles are the Best of Walnut Creek which has
been hosted at City Hall in March and the annual golf tournament at
Boundary Oak for the past 14 years.
